African American Women: Milestone Success Stories

Today, Liz Clarke of the Washington Post wrote a fabulous piece featuring Althea Gibson. Gibson was the daughter of a sharecropper and the first African American to play in Wimbeldon (among many other accolades). Clarke's piece chronicles Gibson's rough start in life. In the midst of this, an outreach program run by the American Tennis Association gave Gibson her start in tennis. Other favorites of the Hot Mommas Project – including BET founder and sports franchise owner Sheila Johnson – were honored in the same 'Breaking Barriers' celebration in Flushing Meadows, New York. 1. First of all I think its just awesome that you are blogging from your blackberry! Way to multi-task!

I recently discovered Kimberly’s podcasts and I have been listening to old episodes to catch up. I heard your show yesterday and it rocked my world! This morning I took a minute to check hotmommas.org, and now I see your post on African American women (I’m one myself). I think I’ve found another fave site. I will go do the survey and work my way through the toolkit, but what I’d really love is to find a group of Hot Mommas that I can get involved with. Are there active groups in the DC area?
