As an addendum to the first post on Eastern medicine for Stressed out Chicks – Part 1,I am rolling out our April book club selection – The Whale Rider and our June book club selection: Go Put Your Strengths To Work by Marcus Buckingham. The combination of the two books explore the topics of strengths, personal discovery, and leadership in two completely different contexts. Set in New Zealand, The Whale Rider explores leadership from a cultural and gender-based perspective. It draws on the mystical and natural. Go Put Your Strengths to Work is classically Western in its “be better, faster, smarter” approach. However, there are not-so-subtle “Hey, and you’ll be happier this way” messages which speak to a global trend toward quality of life. Further your study of yourself, and “getting into the zone” (as discussed in first Eastern medicine post) with these readings.
