“Confidence is beauty, strong is the new thin, and if you say ‘I can’, you will”
– Liz Corah, Founder of Studio-310 and 1st Place Hot Mommas Project Case Winner
For those of you who are just tuning in here—about three weeks ago, we honored the incredible role models and mentors who won this year’s case study competition. Here at the project we always talk about our reach being global, and I want to assure you that this isn’t just pretty sounding talking points. The movement to empower women through mentorship can be found in Cairo’s Tahrir Square and in a patiserrie in Paris, just like it can be found in the farmlands of Iowa or an executive’s office in New York City. Our Hot Mommas Middle East Country Manager Rim Siam quickly put this in perspective in the beginning of her remarks that evening:
Washington, D.C. is a long ways from Alexandria, Egypt—my home— and yet it is comforting to know that the bond and support among women in this project has no boundaries… Women in the Middle East have struggled for a voice, just like they have here in the United States—and our stories of success need telling.
No doubt they are encouraging words, but we can report that the sentiments relayed by Rim are truly shared internationally: the webcast of the awards ceremony was viewed by global audience—from Taiwan to Dubai to Argentina (just to name a few of the countries viewers resided in). We were also honored to host a delegation of Hot Mommas who traveled from all over the Middle East to accept their awards, and support the ongoing mentorship of women and girls around the world.
Now, I won’t give you a detailed play by play here because you should tune into the webcast recording. I promise, it’s well worth your time. However, what I will say that the evening was nothing short of inspirational—from the speeches of our top award winners to the closing step show by local DC mentoring program Dream Girls DMV.
And no doubt, the great success of the event that evening was due to the collaboration, hard work, and time of our case authors, judges, volunteers, the Hot Mommas Project team, the generous contributions of our sponsors both past and present: The Center for Entrepreneurial Excellence, Direct Selling Education Foundation, Onsalepromos.com, FMS: World Class Software Solutions, Linda Rabbit of Rand Construction, Tenley Carp, and Sephora. Thank you all for making the evening as special as it should be.
