Why Social Media is Cool

Just when you think social media is a total waste of time, you can write about Oreos! (Think early AOL commercial saying “People think I’m working, but I’m really goofing around online!”...all empty inside that I can’t find it on You Tube, but here is another one.)

Pictured here: A Harley dude on his blackberry at a New Jersey turnpike rest stop.

Seriously folks, the Hot Mommas Project has been experimenting with social media over the past 1.5 years so we can be quasi-cool in the curriculum we develop for students. And, as described in, our insiders blog – we got on Twitter. So, this is what happened today: Chris Brogan, basically a reigning grand poobah of social media, threw out a question about a social media campaign for Oreo (just for fun). Within minutes, scads of ideas were volunteered on his post. Click here to see. Here was my idea:

1. Sponsor an entire day on Twitter where the site is black with white writing.
2. Add social cause: all tweets that day worth $
3. Oreo matches
4. Total donated to cause (voted online or pre-established).

5 minutes ago: Someone said on Chris’s blog that the idea was FTW. Not sure what this means, but, there is an exclamation point “FTW!” so I am guessing that is good.

Now: Okay, just looked up FTW. Means “for the win.”

Still growing with social media: One thing we can’t figure out is why everyone comments on our insiders blog, and everyone just skulks around this blog but doesn’t comment. We’re working on it.

Here are some other hilarious ads for posterity.

Let’s take this opportunity to give a shout out to the extremely young grandaddies of social media:Ted Leonsis – a Cool Daddies case protagonist – and Steve Case.

  1. Very cool that you shouted out to Ted Leonsis. He definitely is/was ahead of his time.

And I’m so glad you participated. : )
