Fall 2008: Hot Mommas Project Book Club Selection – Total Leadership

We are now shifting to quarterly book selections since, let’s be honest, what Hot Momma has time to read? We love Stewart Friedman who teaches at Wharton and “gets it” in a big way. His book Total Leadership: Be a Better Leader. Have a Richer Life. is about being a leader in all parts of your life. Said another way, it is about YOU driving the agenda as much as possible for your own happiness. This is totally necessary because, as our Hot Mommas Project research indicates, about half of people arrive at various work-life set ups through their own leadership and entrepreneurial thinking. The other half just sit there waiting for things to happen. This is a way of thinking about how to NOT be that person.

1. When you think of full leadership of your life, what areas come to mind? Do you agree with Friedman’s 4 areas or would you subtract or add some? Why?

2. Get yourself in the right mindset to complete the questions at the following link. Click here. What surprising realizations did you have? What would be your top 1-3 areas of action based on this?

3. Next, complete the more specific questions at the following link. Click here . Again, did you have any surprising realizations? What areas of focus surfaced?

4. Chronicle the key areas for improvement or action (between 1 and 3) and form an accountability partnership with a person (over coffee) or a group (like a bookclub or forum). Check in with them on progress in your top 1 to 3 areas next month. Tips on setting up a group: Podcast.
