Girl Scouts Learn to Unclog Toilets

It’s not just about cookies and cute outfits anymore gals. After years of catering to 10% of U.S. girls, The Girl Scouts are going after the other 90% by rethinking the way they teach leadership. Cathy Kloninger, CEO of the 100 year-old organization, just appointed their first marketing executive ever. In addition to some of their core programs, the Girl Scouts are teaching practical skills girls will need when they leave home for college (with no maintenance staff) such as unclogging toilets. As someone who was kicked out of the Girl Scouts, and whose husband gave her a power drill for Hannukah, I say You GO GIRLS! Shake it up. Now go get me some Samoas! IMPORTANT NOTE: There are some great stats in this study about African American and Hispanic youth, ¾ of which already identify themselves as leaders.
